McBride Ranch Recovery Effort

Donation protected
Every rancher’s nightmare.  That is what happened April 12,2021 at The McBride Ranch.

Tom and Shelly Ryan awoke to find their riding arena/barn completely engulfed with heavy smoke and fire.

In a panicked attempt to free the 6 horses, 3 dogs, 1 cat and 20 chickens housed inside. Tom entered the burning building. He was overcome by smoke and forced to retreat, managing to free only one dog named “Huck”. Thankfully, Tom was not seriously injured.

This devastating event has taken much.  The emotional toll runs deep. The financial loss is life changing as there was no insurance coverage.

McBride Ranch has been part of the small community of McBride, BC for many years. It is a special place that has welcomed many from near and far. The Ryan’s have spent their entire life supporting the horse industry while sharing their knowledge of horsemanship.

The last 25+ years have taken them around North America - Alberta, Texas, Oklahoma, Utah, Brazil and more. Competing at the highest level with their World Champion stallion Genuine 007, who sadly passed earlier this spring. The AQHA World Show, PHBA World Championships, Calgary Stampede, multiple EXCA events, presenting clinics, countless smaller events are a few places they have carried their love of horses.

The last few years have not been kind financially. The Ryan’s lost their main source of income in their small cedar mill due to the volatile financial climate.  Their focus then turned entirely to earning an income through their passion – horses.  Through breeding, training and sales they have managed to stay afloat.  Until this.

Recovery at the ranch will take time, substantial financial & emotional support.  They have lost everything they need to run the ranch.  18 horses remain.  There are no buckets, hay, tools, quads, wagons etc. as these were destroyed in the fire. Through generous donations, they have received enough tack to cover the interim.   Most importantly, there is no area or barn for shelter.

Good people like this are hard to come by. Anyone who has visited the ranch or encountered the Ryan Family knows they are generous, welcoming, and always ready to offer a hand.  Their hard work, determination and grit will see them through this but with our help, we can get McBride Ranch back up and, on its feet, to create many more special memories.  We are hoping for financial donations, building supplies, feed etc.  Anything helps!
